SCHOOL AGED VISITS

Middle childhood brings many changes in a child’s life. Although your child is no longer a baby and may not require any mandatory immunizations, we advise that your child continues to receive a routine physical exam yearly to make sure they are continuing to develop properly.

Your doctor will begin to discuss their intellectual and behavioral development, performance in school, how they are interacting socially with friends and family members, and how your child is dealing with their feelings.

FAQ/Concerns:

Tip: Stay up to date with your well visits to ensure all school form documentation is completed in a timely manner.

What vaccines/labs are expected at these visits?

At 5-10 years—-No mandatory immunizations are due at this visit, If the season is appropriate, your child will be offered the Influenza vaccine. At every visit your child will receive a finger prick to screen for anemia (low iron) and provide a urine sample for a urinalysis. Your child will also undergo a hearing and vision screening.

11 years—– At this age, your child will be due for their booster of TDAP and 1st Menactra (meningococcal) vaccines. If the season is appropriate, your child will be offered the Influenza vaccine. Your child will continue to receive a vision and hearing screen at this visit.

12 years—There are no mandatory immunizations due at this visit. However your doctor will begin offering the Gardasil vaccine to protect against HPV. If received before the age of 15 the vaccine is completed in 2 doses – both 6 months apart.
